    Language Arts

The focus of language arts instruction in sixth and seventh grade is to help you develop your reading, writing, speaking, and communication skills.  We will do this by working on grammar, spelling, vocabulary, literature, and a variety of writing.  You will find this year challenging, rewarding, and enjoyable.

    7th Grade Language Arts

The seventh grade Language Arts class is designed to develop skills as a communicator in writing and speaking.  During the course of the year, students will write in a variety of styles including narrative, essay-explanatory, persuasive and comparative, short story, poetry, and research report.  Effective oral communication will be developed through units of study in debate and public speaking.

    6th Grade Language Arts Literacy

The central focus of Language Arts Literacy is to improve students reading, writing, and communication skills.  We will do this through the study of grammar, vocabulary, literature, novels, and various writing assignments, projects, and presentations.

    Reading

Reading focuses of study will include reading comprehension strategies, how to approach different genres of text, and making inferences and drawing conclusions based on textual clues. Our studies will also include how to respond to text in a variety of formats including multiple choice, short answer or open-ended responses, as well as through essays and projects.
